Citi To Mobilize More Than 55,000 Volunteers Across 100 Countries for its Second Annual ``Global Community Day''

Background
Citi employees volunteer year-round in the communities in which they
live and work. "Global Community Day”
is an annual tradition where Citi’s employees,
along with their families and friends, come together as a global team on
a single day each year. Volunteer teams will be working on hundreds of
local projects addressing specific community needs including financial
literacy, housing, environmental protection, nutrition, health care and
disaster relief. Citi expects more than 55,000 volunteers participating
in over 1,000 projects across 100 countries. Volunteers will be working
on 60 projects in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut, including:
Southern Connecticut Keep Stamford Beautiful (Scalzi Park, 100 Bridge Street,
Stamford, CT 06901): Citi volunteers will work on one of two projects 1)
Roller Hockey Rink Restoration and 2) Mill River Clean-Up. Scalzi Park
is a 48-acre park that is part of the Stamford Department of Parks and
Recreation Department. Mill River runs through downtown Stamford into
the Long Island Sound. It’s the
centerpiece of the Mill River Corridor Plan, an integrated approach to
community and downtown development and investment. Time: 9:00am –

Central New Jersey Operation Shoebox (Warren Center Bldg B, 283 King George Road,
NJ): Operation Shoebox NJ is a nonprofit organization engaged in sending
care packages to US troops (soldiers and marines) in Iraq and
Afghanistan. Volunteers will be sorting supplies and preparing packages
for shipment. Children and adults are also invited to write letters and
cards to the recipients. These packages will reach the troops for the

Manhattan (Downtown) 5K Run for Hunger (Pier 46 at West Street & Charles Street, New
York, NY): Citi volunteers will be walking and running to raise funds
for The United Nation’s World Food Program's
school feeding initiatives. Money raised through Citi’s
Run/Walk for Hunger will go directly towards WFP’s
School Feeding initiatives, which provide meals at school to the world’s
poorest children. It only takes $34 to feed one hungry child in school
for one year. The school feeding initiatives help keep children in
school, providing them with an important key to a better future –

Revitalize the High School of Economics and Finance (100 Trinity
Place, New York, NY) Citi volunteers, along with New York Cares, will
work on four projects: 1) Mentoring while working side-by-side with
students to organize the library & computer lab, hang artwork in
classrooms, and frame & hang photographs in hallways, 2) Spend time with
HSEF students enriching their in-house curriculum with a museum trip to
The Bodies Exhibit at the South Street Seaport to support our NYC youth
and develop our future leaders, 3) Paint classrooms and murals in the
stairwells, assemble bookcases, and create inventory of books in the
library, and 4) Construct cards for local seniors to brighten their day!
Have fun and make a difference with this New York Cares program--giving
our NYC home-bound seniors a much needed connection to the

Revitalize the High School of Fashion Industries (255 West
24th Street, New York NY) NYCares and Citi volunteers will work in three
locations within the school organizing rooms containing supplies and
resources which are, or could be, highly utilized by the students. In
addition, volunteers will be painting murals on large canvases to be
donated to the Ali Forney Center. The Ali Forney Center (AFC) was
started in 2002 in response to the lack of shelter for LGBT youth in New
York City. The AFC is dedicated to providing these young people with
safe, dignified, and nurturing environments where their needs can be
met. In addition, the AFC promotes awareness of homeless LGBT youth in
America with the goal of generating responses on local and national
levels. The High School of Fashion Industries is the only high school of
its kind in the eastern United States. The occupational curriculum
devotes itself entirely to the world of fashion from styling and design

Cabrini Center for Nursing & Rehabilitation (542 East 5th
Street, New York, NY) Volunteers spend the afternoon with the
charming residents at the Cabrini Center for Nursing and
Rehabilitation as they celebrate an early Thanksgiving. There will be
entertainment, refreshments, games and prizes. Time: 2:00pm to 4:00pm.

Manhattan (Uptown) Washington Heights Academy at PS 178M & PS 152M (12-18
Ellwood Street, New York, NY 10040). NYCares and Citi volunteers will
paint both the inside and outside of the school. The inside painting
projects will include a variety of theme appropriate murals in
classrooms as well as straight painting, border and trim work in other
rooms and brightening and enlivening the school with primary colors and
whimsical designs. In addition, books in the library will be leveled.
The outside projects will involve painting line games in the schoolyard
and a large mural on a retaining wall. Washington Heights Academy is a
parent-initiated, community-based public school programs that serves
neighborhood children from diverse cultural and socio-economic
backgrounds. Currently housed at PS 178 and serving kindergarten to
grade 2, the Academy will eventually become an autonomous K-8 school,
which will provide children with a coherent and continuous academic
experience throughout their elementary and middle school years. Time:

Queens Jacob Riis Settlement House (10-25 41st Ave., Long Island City,
NY 11120) Citi volunteers will be preparing and serving Thanksgiving
dinners for 200+ Jacob Riis Settlement Home residents. Time: 9:00am to

Brooklyn Paul Robeson High School (150 Albany Avenue , Brooklyn, NY) Citi
volunteers will spend the day at Paul Robeson High School in Brooklyn.
They will be painting classrooms and fences, cleaning desks and
chalkboards, and organizing supplies, as well as packing and decorating
Creativity Kits to donate to LYFE, the daycare center for the children
of the young mothers who attend Paul Robeson High School. Time:

Long Island Island Harvest - Nassau (875 Jerusalem Avenue, Uniondale, NY) Citi volunteers will be working with Island Harvest, a non-profit
that feeds individuals and families in Nassau and Suffolk counties, to
deliver turkeys and non-perishable foods to families in need. Island
Harvest is a nonprofit organization that collects and distributes food
to the many soup kitchens, homeless shelters and nonprofit partners
across Long Island. Activities will take place at Holly Paterson Senior
